Remote INSCYD Test
What is it?
The INSCYD Power Performance Decoder is the world's most advanced metabolic analysis system for cycling — and it doesn't require a lab, a mask, or a blood sample.
Using your power meter data from structured test efforts performed wherever you train — on your own roads, your own turbo trainer, or at our studio — the PPD models your complete metabolic profile using the INSCYD platform. VO2max, VLaMax, lactate thresholds, fuel use, carbohydrate consumption, and metabolic phenotype. The same outputs as a full lab test, delivered from your power data.
It is the methodology used by coaches of Tour de France teams, world champions, and Olympic medallists. At Tristar, we are one of only three INSCYD-certified practitioners in New Zealand and the only one in Canterbury.
What the results tell you
VO2max — modelled from your power data
VLaMax — your maximum lactate production rate, the glycolytic measure most testing ignores
LT1 and LT2 — lactate threshold estimates at aerobic and anaerobic threshold
Fat and carbohydrate oxidation rates across all intensities
Carbohydrate consumption rate at race pace — directly applicable to fuelling strategy
Metabolic phenotype — your classification across the five Tristar phenotypes
Personalised training zones — in power and heart rate
Full INSCYD report with Tristar branding
Video debrief call — a thorough walkthrough of your results and what they mean for training
-
Cyclists and triathletes who want the full INSCYD metabolic profile without the gas analysis mask or blood lactate sampling. Those who have previously found gas analysis masks uncomfortable or claustrophobic. Athletes who want metabolic profiling in a more controlled, purely power-based format.
Note: available for cycling or running.

The test efforts take approximately 60–90 minutes to complete including warm-up. Allow 2–3 days for report production after data receipt. The debrief call runs approximately 45–60 minutes.
All prices NZD inclusive of GST.
How it works
You complete a structured series of maximal power efforts at different durations — targeting different energy system time domains. These can be performed outdoors on your usual training route, on your own indoor trainer, or at our studio on the Wattbike Proton. A heart rate monitor is required. A calibrated power meter is essential.
You record the session and send the data to us. We analyse it through the INSCYD platform and produce your full metabolic report, which we walk through with you in a video debrief call.
The quality of your maximal efforts directly affects the accuracy of the result — full commitment on each effort is essential.
